Running a Halloween raffle

Halloween is the tightest selling window of the year. It is a single fixed date with no flexibility, and the events around it are usually squeezed into the last week of October — often straight after a half term that takes your sellers away for a week. Our 6 Halloween designs are made for a short, sharp campaign rather than a long one.

Mind the half term

In most of the country half term falls in the week before Halloween, which removes the obvious selling week entirely. If your event is on or near the 31st, that means distributing tickets before the holiday and collecting afterwards, or running the whole thing in the few days that remain.

Ordering early matters more here than in any other season. Standard delivery is free and takes 5 working days, so a late decision quickly becomes an express order at 3 working days, or no raffle at all.

Events that suit it

School Halloween discos, spooky trails, fancy dress parties, pumpkin competitions and community bonfire-season events all pair well with a raffle. The draw usually happens on the night, which keeps the whole campaign simple.

Because the audience skews towards families with younger children, a raffle drawn live at the event tends to work better than one drawn later. People are there, they can see the prizes, and the excitement does the selling.

Prizes with a seasonal hook

Sweet hampers, costume or fancy dress vouchers, cinema tickets and a family pass to a Halloween attraction all fit the mood. A carved pumpkin bundle or a themed baking hamper can be assembled from donations at almost no cost.

Keep prizes suitable for the crowd you expect. At a school disco the winners will mostly be children, so at least one prize they would actually choose themselves is worth including.
